A Year Later — A Milestone for Parkinson’s Advocacy

A year ago, I traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for the Parkinson’s community and the National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act.

A year ago, I traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for the Parkinson’s community and the National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act.

Today, I’m grateful to see an important piece of that work moving forward: the federal Advisory Council on Parkinson’s Research, Care, and Services has been appointed and is now actively working. The Council is helping guide the development of the first-ever National Plan to better prevent, diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure Parkinson’s disease.

I’m especially grateful for the leadership and advocacy of Jennifer Lynn Wexton, who made this national effort possible. Her own journey with parkinsonism/ progressive supranuclear palsy brought an incredibly important voice to this work.

The Council held its second public meeting in August and is now working through priorities involving research, care, services, and support for people living with Parkinson’s and their families.

This is why advocacy matters. Change takes time, but progress happens when people are willing to speak up, show up, and keep pushing for better answers and better care.

At Home Care Partners / NE Parkinson’s Community Partners, we believe no family should have to navigate Parkinson’s alone.

If you know a family living with Parkinson’s who would like support navigating the journey and finding ways to live well and remain at home, please reach out.
